The PPA Tour is making a major change to how the world's best pickleball players are ranked.

Beginning with the 2026-27 season (starting in September of 2026, the PPA will introduce the World Pickleball Rankings (WPR), a new global ranking system designed to determine the best overall players in professional pickleball.

One Ranking Across Three Disciplines

One of the biggest differences with the new system is that a player's overall ranking will be determined by their performance across all three professional disciplines: gender doubles, mixed doubles, and singles.

However, each discipline won't be treated equally.

The rankings will be weighted as follows:

  • Gender Doubles: 50%

  • Mixed Doubles: 35%

  • Singles: 15%

The formula clearly puts the greatest emphasis on doubles while still rewarding players who compete and perform well across all three disciplines.

Rankings will be calculated using each player's 14 best results over the previous 52 weeks.

PPA Events Around the World Will Count

The new rankings will also bring PPA events from around the world under one system.

Results from PPA Challengers, international tournaments, Majors, and the Pickleball World Championships will all contribute toward the same global leaderboard, with the number of points available varying based on the level of the tournament.

The change comes as the PPA continues to expand internationally, including its growing presence in Asia and Europe.

Rankings Will Have Real Consequences

The World Pickleball Rankings won't just be about determining who gets to call themselves the No. 1 player in the world.

A player's position in the rankings will also impact tournament entries and byes throughout the season.

Perhaps most importantly, the rankings will determine qualification for the season-ending PPA Finals. The top eight men and top eight women will qualify to compete across all three disciplines at the event.

Who Benefits From the New System?

The new format could make being an all-around player more valuable than ever before.

Players who consistently compete in singles, mixed doubles, and gender doubles will have an opportunity to separate themselves from players who specialize in only one or two disciplines.

At the same time, the 50% weighting toward gender doubles means doubles performance will remain the biggest factor in determining who ultimately sits atop the rankings.

With professional pickleball continuing to expand internationally, the new system gives the PPA something the sport has largely lacked: one global leaderboard designed to determine the best all-around player in the world.

The World Pickleball Rankings will officially debut with the 2026-27 PPA Tour season.
